Build your own isn't that bad if you look at the source and find it is a mess.

Quite often, these posted articles are quite messy re indentation and naming conventions (everything beginning with My or misnamed/reused variables). Some have really messy logic which you have to rearrange.

They are basically recipes - just like cooking. It is a guideline. May not be the best way but that is one way in which the desired result can be achieved.
