sounds like a personal problem, but, actually.....
I installed RH 7.0 workstation and some process is printing a backtick char every couple of minutes. I can't find anything in the accompanying book or on-line docs. I want it to stop. It drops a backtick in where every I happen to be working, like while I'm editting a file. Extra backticks in Perl cause real problems.

Thanks for any ideas,

I have done the same on several machines with no problems like this. Are you sure your kb isn't shorted. I'm sure you thought of this, but have you actually swapped kb's, and if there is another OS on the machine, do you have the same problem? I'm not trying to be insulting, but most of the time the simplest answers are the correct ones. I've looked at lots of bugs with RH, and never seen this one.

Good Luck!
MWB. As always, I hope that helped!

If it is a keyboard problem it can sometimes be detected by examining the bootup section of the 'messages' log, I had a wierdly behaving keyboard and got the following message:

Feb 5 10:46:20 saturn kernel: keyboard: Too many NACKs -- noisy kbd cable?

Thanks for the responses. I initially wondered if it was a sticky key, but, I have Win98 running on this same box and don't see this symptom. You both may still be correct. I'll try swapping the key board and checking the log.

Thanks,
