I am running Veritas Backup Exec for Windows NT and Windows 2000 (SBS2000).

Today I have this error on my backup log report:
Storage device "Seagate 1" reported an error on a request to write data to media.
Error reported:
Data error (cyclic redundancy check).

I got this error last week -- same day, same tape.

I backup every night and my backups are always successful...until last week.

What do I need to do?
Thanks,

Lynda

Errors that occur during the CRC portion of a verify in a backup are hardware errors. Check your Event Viewer-->System Logs for any events with the source of either your tape drive(s) or SCSI hba. Look for event id 7, 9, 11, 15. If you have a lot of event 9 or 11, check out MS-Q154690 as you may be getting SCSI timeout problems. But more than likely, you should: clean the tape drive(s) twice, update the firmware on the drives and on the SCSI card. Update the drivers on the SCSI card. Download/install latest Veritas drivers. If after all of above and errors still occur, contact hardware vendor.
