I have a PC that crashed. I can boot the system to the DOS prompt using a floppy disk. I then have access to the HD and also the CD. I also have an external ZIP drive available if needed.

The PC is part of a network, however, with out going into Windows I do not know how to access the computer through the networl(or if I even can).

This is an older system that was running Win 95. The floppy that I have used to boot the system with is also a Win 95 recover/boot disk.

I need to recover @ 10 MB of data from the hard drive. Does anyone have a solution or some guidance.

Any and all help is appreciated.

David

Your external ZIP drive sounds good. The software that came with it includes a DOS utility that makes it available and it will hold 100Mb of your data/programs. The program should be on an included floppy.
Attach it, move to the C:, move to the directory, copy the needed stuff over. Or better xcopy it and put it in a parallel ditectory so the recovery will be an xcopy back.
Best to make 2 copies and go onto the ZIP to see if the copy appears to come across.
You might need to get xcopy off the hard disk with DOS to be able to use it.
Network probably could be made available with DOS, but without programs and drivers loaded up front, it is too much effort for what you need.

Thanks,

The zip drive worked although it too was apain to attach.
