Ok i have a DVD burner that burns cds too, and when i burn a cd the first part of the disc plays fine but the second half of the songs i put on the disc crackle and hiss badly, but when i burn a dvd its fine anyone have an idea whats causing it

I believe there are different lasers for CDs and DVDs. Does the CD hiss & crackle on any machine it's played back on, or only the drive that created it?

on any machine its played on but it was fine before its just recently started doing this, and part of the disc is ok and part is bad

Sounds like a tracking problem with the CD laser...before replacing the drive I would try a blast of canned air and another brand of media. CD/DVD drives are victims of the "make it cheaper" syndrome...where things are made cheaper for low price's sake and now have shorter lives, especially optical drives with lots of moving parts.

I have optical drives from 1997 that refuse to die, but have gone through several new cheapos (Sony, Asus, LiteOn)in the last five years, they just stop working...at least yours is giving you notice [smile]
