I am trying to link two fields - a number and a string. While this worked in Crystal 8.5, getting the message "The specified fields may not link successfully due to different type.", in Crystal 9, I just get an error "Data types are not compatible" with no option to continue.

Is there a way to get these fields of different types to link in Crystal 9?

If there is not a way to link the tables, I can start the report in 8.5 then save as version 9. Is there a way to copy the linking to my version 9 report or to copy my fields and formulas to version 8.5 so I don't have to start over?

Thank you so much for your help.

I'm surprised you were able to run the report in 8.5. One solution is to create a subreport in which you convert the field in a formula to the same type as that in the main report. Then link the subreport to the main report using the formula.
