Hi there, when I create a report based on the result of an sql query, from wich was created with the SQL Designer that comes with crystal; is it possible to view and edit the query from VB? Ive been playing with the SQLQueryString property but it always seems to be empty. I can set the SQLQueryString property with an alternate query wich then returns different report data but I cant seem to get at the inittial report query.

Thanks for your time

i don't use the sql querey designer, but i have used the SQLQuereyString property extensively. I normally design the report through the Crystal Reports application and then choose 'Show SQL Querey' from the "Database" menu. Then i copy the querey, paste it into vb, leave most of it hardcoded as a string variable and insert whatever variables i want into the string to change the behavior. When viewing this report i use the syntax

Report.SQLQuereyString = MyStringVariable

and it works fine. Can you see the querey by choosing Show SQL Querey in this way?

bill,

CD doesn't recommend that you combine the QRY with applicatiions. There is no control of connectivity and no tools to manipulate the QRY file. As an alternative, you can put the SQL statement in your application and pass a recordset to the report. Ken Hamady, On-site Custom Crystal Reports Training & Consulting
