CR8.5 - BLOB/MEMO fields not allowed in FORMULA. 1

CR8.5 states can't use BLOB or Memo fields in Formulae.

I was hoping to use a formula to filter the contents of a Memo field in the report to remove references to certain strings.
Is there a way around this limitation?
Does a later version of CR remove this limitation?

There will probably be others that will post their solutions - Crystal V10 allows you to use memo fields in 255 character chucks - previous versions were forced to split the field up into several string fields within the database.
