Hi,

help please ...

I am trying to place a memo field onto a Crystal 10 Report. When I try to run my report, I am getting "illegal use of long datatype". The datatype in the table is LONG. I also can not browse this field. I have tried to convert this to text and change the field length in a formula versus just placing the field on the report and this did not work.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thank You.

Dear Mazak,

Do you meet any of the following conditions for this error:

A value of datatype LONG was used in a function or in a DISTINCT, WHERE, CONNECT BY, GROUP BY, or ORDER BY clause. A LONG value can only be used in a SELECT clause.

If so, it can only be used in the Select clause itself. If that is all you are doing in the report, then it may be an actual database error popping up. Can you have a dba test the select statement and see if they get the same error? That would tell you whether it is a problem in the database or in Crystal.

regards,

ro

Hi,

Thanks for help...

I was able to create a sql select statement using Benthics-Golden 32, so it was not a database error.

However, when I viewed the sql query I found that I was using the distinct records.

Thank you,
MAZAK
