Hi All

I installed CR XI Enterprise and XI Developer on my W2K Pro machine. I am able to run reports fine through Developer but when publishing them to Enterprise and try to execute them, I get a "Failed to open the connection: Report Name" error.
I created the connections through Designer, this worked fine and not sure what else needs to be done...I have 1.5 days experience with Enterprise.
Can someone point me in the right direction? Did I miss a step? Do I have to create the Business View for this to work? I tried doing research but all foreign to me

Thanks

Hi,
What is the datasource? ( Database Type and Version, Connection method)..

The 'usual suspect' in this scenario is a lack of permission for the CE server's accounts to access the data source.

Sorry about the lack of info

CR Oracle ODBC Driver 4.10 connecting to Oracle 8.1.6 DB

Like I had stated, I am very new to CE, so direct steps would be very appreciated.

Thank you again

I am logging into CE as Administrator

Set up the identical ODBC connection on the CE server, and make sure that you complete the Database tab within CE for that report.

btw, Crystal has native connectivity to Oracle which is much faster and won't require ODBC settings on CE.

Thank you for the response. I found the solution...the DSN had to be setup for the connections.

Also, I noticed with CRXI, although I stated and I double-checked to install the Oracle connectivity, it is not available when I create a new report.

Any ideas what could be wrong? I went back in to Add/Remove Programs and verified that I installed it.

This is the Developer Edition

Thanks again

Hi,
Just so I am clear..
Oracle's client was installed before CR?
There is no Oracle Server choice in the Make New Connection option list?

Thanks..

That is correct. I have oracle client installed and just started using CDXI, there is no choice to select an Oracle DB. I installed everything to disc.

I also have Crystal Professional 10 installed and Oracle is available for selection and I can easily create reports.

I had downloaded the 30 day eval for CRXI Pro a couple months ago, installed the entire thing to disc and it was not there either.

It is very strange. Any suggestions other than reinstalling everything ;-)

As referenced here:

The Oracle native driver for CR XI requires the Oracle 9.2 or higher client, and the Oracle 8.17 or higher server. Before migrating reports based on the Oracle Native driver, make sure you have Oracle 9.2 or higher installed to continue using the native connection. If you do not have Oracle 9.2 or higher you can try switching to an ODBC connection to continue using an older version of the Oracle client.

Hi,
Nice catch synapse, ( as usual) ...
Since we have only 9.2.x.x or higher Oracle clients I never noticed that change in requirements...
Thanks..

Thanks guys for the response but I had installed 9.2 client on my PC, as I saw the same reference, and it still did not show up.

Does it hurt for me to have both 8.1 and 9.2 clients installed locally?

Thanks again...it is appreciated

Hi,
That could cause a problem..Crystal may only 'see' the 8.1 client...

There is no need for both ( unless, for some reason, you need to connect to an Oracle v7.3 instance)and, given the complications involved with 2 Oracle homes, it is usually a good idea to remove the older client first, then install the new one.

If possible, do a full reinstall:
1:Remove ( uninstall, reboot, delete directories) both existing Oracle Clients ( save your tnsnames.ora and sqlnet.ora files from the 9.2 home.)
2: Reboot
3: Install Oracle 9.2 or later client
-place your saved tnsnames and sqlnet files in the network/admin directory in the new Oracle home
4: Install CR...

Should clear up any issues..
