CR XI - Parameters (populate list from db)

I am runiing Crystal Reports XI against an SQL view of a Progress database. My reports are installed at several client sites. For some reason, when I go to populate the parameter dropdown list via the
List of Values (select field)
Actions
Append all database values

instead of populating the list, I get a request to log on to the sql db server. the string in upper right corner of the window banner says:

Logon: Driver Name=crdb_odbc.dll;ServerName=foundsql92;database Name=;

The grayed-out server name is foundsql92
The User Name is sysprogress (as it is with all of our user names), and the password is being entered correctly.

The error window says

Logon failed.
Error in file UNKNOWN.RPT:
unable to connect:Incorrect logon parameters.(rptControllers.dll)

This does not happen all the time.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

What happens is you first logon and check your datasource location(s) before trying to set the parameter? If your logon fails here already you can be sure there is something wrong with your credentials.

The error message very much indicates that you fail to logon indeed. I get the same message if I give the wrong credentials. UNKNOWN.RPT is also default for the error message
