Hi,
I have CR XI installed. During the installation I selected 'oracle' under the data access options. It did seem to install, i.e. there is an oracle folder under data access. However, when I login and try and create a new report I do not have the option for Oracle. There's an older thread for 8.5 with the same problem, but I don't know if the oracle dlls have the same name for 9i/XI. Any help would be great.

Thanks,
Jennifer

You probably didn't haev the Oracle client installed on your PC prior to installing, which you need.

Once installed properly you'll see a source called Oracle Server.

So install the Oracle client (ask your dba for assistance), adn then it should show up after restart or reboot.

If not, you may need to uninstall and reinstall the Oracle client, but it definitely works just fine.

I already have the oracle client installed and it's working fine. So, you think maybe I should uninstall/reinstall oracle client and then reinstall CR XI?

Thanks!
Jennifer

Hi,
The order is important:
Oracle Client

then

CR XI

That is the order it was done. I have had oracle client on my laptop for over a year....
I had CR XI installed and it was working fine. Then one day my reports started giving me an error on the database connection. I noticed that oracle no longer showed up when I tried to create a new report. So - I uninstalled and reinstalled it today and it appears to be installing the components for oracle server, but it isn't showing up in my list of new connections. Thanks!!!!!

It sounds like something is confusing Crystal, perhaps the path has been modified so that it no longer points to Oracle or the TNSNAMES.ORA file or some such.

Since it suddenly stopped, I'd assume something changed that day.

Hi,
Just so I am clear on what you are seeing( or not, as the case maty be):

Open CR XI,
Select
Blank Report
In subsequent DataBase Expert, pick 'Make New Connection'
at that point, does Oracle Server appear as a choice?

Hi,
If no Oracle Server choice, then synapse is on the right track..

What changed between the time it worked and now?

Check your PATH and ORACLE_HOME settings -

It is odd behavior, however...I just changed my Oracle client to 10G ( from 9.2 ) by totally removing the older version and then installing the new one..Different Oracle_Home and path entries but CR XI still recognizes that I have Orace installed and works fine..

We have this automated tool that pushes updates to our computers, so I am wondering if some push broke it. I have my path for oracle in the PATH variable. I'm not seeing an ORACLE_HOME in my environment variables. Should it be there in environment variables? I can't remember...
If so that is the problem. :) Thanks so much!!!

My path (using Oracle 10g) is:

C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\bin

I've had problems before with this, and I reinstalled the client adn then Crystal and it was fine, but that was for previous Crystal versions.

Hi,
ORACLE_HOME is a registry entry, usually..

HKLM-Software-Oracle

You can add it to your system Env variables, but it is usually not needed there... I suspect something was 'pushed' that broke something..( not very helpful, I know..)

Try a 'Repair' of the CR XI installation from the Control Panel..Add/Remove Programs..Highlight CR XI and choose Change...

( try add/remove first, re-add the Oracle datasource, if that does not help, try the reinstall choice)

..

I actually have 3 versions of oracle on my pc, but I checked and the oracle_home is set in the registry for each version. I already did the repair and it didn't work. I guess I am going to have to reinstall oracle 9i and then CRXI. Thanks!!

Hi,
One more thing before that ( if I am in time)..
Use the Home Selector ( under Oracle Installation Products) to be sure your Default home is set to the same Oracle_Home that was in use when CR was installed ( probably the 9i one)..

Multiple client versions of Oracle often cause problems..do you need them all?
