CR XI installation problems

Here's an unanswered question from another CE forum. Can we be of any help here?

Hello all.
On a windows 2000 SP4 server. I uninstalled CR/CE8.5 (including deleting registry keys and directories), and installed CR XI. The install completes without an issue, but when I run CR, I get a message box titled "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library". The error message is "Runtime Error! Program:<long path to crw32.exe> This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact <blah blah blah...>". Has anyone experienced this?

I've tried applying the CR monthly hotfix, to no effect. I then tried the Common patch, and received an error during the installation relating to reading/updating the registry for hotfix info. I strongly doubt I have a permission problem here (I have admin priviledges. Anyone have any ideas?

Sounds like a corrupted install.

If possible, try installing on another box as there are many possibilities inclusive of the OS having something askew.
