Hi,
I’ve got a folder, Finance, with 2 sub folders, income and expenses.

LEVEL 1 FINANCE
LEVEL 2 INCOME
LEVEL 2 EXPENSES

I want to restrict a group “EXPENSES” to access only folder “EXPENSES”.
But when I grant Group EXPENSES Access to folder EXPENSES, the user cannot see EXPENSES folder in info view.

I have had to grant the user access to Level 1 FINANCE. I don’t want to do this.

How can I restrict a group “EXPENSES” to access only folder “EXPENSES”.(I thought this would be easy!)

Thanks.

Al.

You won't be able to see the child folders without seeing the parent folder.
You could try something like this:
1.) Assume you have a user called Mary
2.) Mary is a member of Everyone and ExpenseGRP
3.) Everyone is set to NoAccess at Finance
4.) ExpenseGRP is set to ViewOnDemand(or whatever) at Expenses folder
5.) Temporarily make Mary a member of Administrators
6.) Log on as Mary and set her default folder to Expenses
7.) Log Off as Mary
8.) Remove Mary from Administrators group
9.) Log on as Mary and she will be taken directly to Expenses folder.

If Mary navigates out of Expenses folder, she can't get back unless she logs out and in.

Not pretty, but it might work for you.

OR
Consider giving the Expenses group rights to the Finance folder, but not to any objects in it.
This would mean setting rights on every object in the Finance folder.

Have fun.

Another option would be to set up a Category that contains the reports that are in the Expenses folder. Users who need those reports could then access them through the Category without having to navigate the folder tree. (Assuming you're using BO XI - I haven't used CE, so I don't know if it has Categories.)

A computer only does what you actually told it to do - not what you thought you told it to do.
