CR with Oracle 8i, and ASP, COM

Hello,

We have a requirement to develop reports using Crystal
with Oracle 8i as the database. We plan to use COM objects to retrieve data from Oracle.

We also might use Materialized Views of Oracle 8i to interact with the Crystal Reports.

1. Which flavour of Crystal 8.5 should we choose?
2. Has anyone worked with the above background.
3. What are the potential pitfalls ?
4. What possible problems could be encountered and
resolutions to them, if available?
5. Is Crystal Reports engine multi-threaded? What happens
if more than 4 reports are initiated con-currently.

Any input would be much appreciated and helpful.

samson599: You will need the Developer Edition of 8.5 and/or the Professional version of Crystal Enterprise (my choice). Make sure you download the latest driver (cror815.dll) from the Crystal Decisions website - you may need this. The Enterprise product is designed to be multi-threaded and as it is based upon the Info model (an earlier version) I can say from experience that this will support multiple instantiations of reports dependent upon the level of hardware you throw at it up to 10 or more concurrently - actually Enterprise is designed to act in a multi-server environment so assuming you have enough boxes you can get any number of simultaneous reports produced.

Thanks for your prompt response.

Actually we have a plan to build a reports queue which we will perform the enqueue, dequeue operations, thereby streamlining the load on the server.

What about the Oracle 8i interface via Stored Procedures with CR? Is this supported?

Materialized views of Oracle 8i with CR?

With CR8.5, we can now output the report to PDF format?
Is the format problem experienced in the previous versions resolved?

Also, can we integrate with the Mail Server directly via CR. In other words, generate the report and attach it to an e-mail message to be sent directly..
