CR SQL turns Access Text into Blobs

I've written a Crystal SQL Designer (v 8.0, with CR 8.5) query to aggregate detail records from several Access (97) tables into one for reporting. I have the SQL working; it extracts and displays what I want.
But when I use the query back in CR, I need to group and subtotal on a text field, and the original text fields don't show up as available at all. When I write one in, I get error messages about blobs being unusaeble in formulas.

Any suggestions or fixes will be appreciated!

I don't use Crystal Query Designer and suggest caution when others do.

I'd create the Query in Access and reference that query in CR, letting Access do the real work.

CR 8.5 and less only supports 254 char fields for use with formulas, so create another field in the query which is the 1st 254 characters and use that to group on.

You can also use a SQL Expression to create this group field if you're using ODBC connectivity to the Access database.
