I am running Crystal Reports on NT 4.0 now. Previously I was on Win 95. After the change in operating systems, when you try to print something, the whole program shuts down. Has anyone ever ran into this problem?

thanks,

We just installed, no reinstalled. I am actually in Crystal reports, when I do a file-print, the little print icon briefly appears on the botton right hand corner, then I'm totally kicked out. The preview button is greyed out when I'm running the report. Hope this is useful info.

thanks. [sig][/sig]

i've encountered some problems with crystal reports before if you don't have a printer installed in your NT... even if you're not connected to LAN or no physical printer connected to your workstation, try installing a dummy printer connected to your LPT1 then try again..

>>>>Does this mean that it is opening a preview tab to view the output on the screen?

Yes, this is when I get kicked out, also I can get to the "File - Printer Setup" window. [sig][/sig]

Lots of things to check:

In printer setup, is there a printer selected? Can you select a different printer and try it?

You installed Crystal after you upgraded to NT? What version of CR? Was it 32 Bit?

You get kicked out before you see the results on the screen or after? Do you see it reading records before it crashes?

If you open the sample reports that come with it do you get the same behavior?

Can you create a new report and run it?

>Correct printer was selected in "printer setup".
>The version is Crystal Reports Professional (product 7.0.0.0 / CRW32 7.0.7.192 / size 8139776)
>I get kicked off after you see the results on the screen.
>The sample reports and new reports exhibit the same exact behavior.

***Note...I set up a dummy LPT1 printer, then if you select the dummy printer in printer setup and print to it, then go back and reselect your normal printer, then print...it actually prints. [sig][/sig]

Sounds like Crystal doesn't like something in the printer definition. I haven't seen this, but since you have a way of making it work, then there is hope for fixing it.

Can you recreate the printer, or create another printer icon for this printer? Does that one work?

Do you have the most up to date drivers for this printer?

Of course that doesn't explain why other applications have no problem with this existing printer (I assume that is true).
