Hi,

Using Crystal Reports Server XI, running on Win2003 Server, CMS database on a separate server (SQL Server 2000). Reporting against an SQL Server 2000 database using OLE DB.

I had some major issues getting this to work. Ended up using the Java version of InfoView (.NET was very unstable) and OLE DB connections for the reports instead of ODBC (couldn't get dynamic parameters to work with ODBC when run from InfoView).

Anyway, now everything runs pretty smoothly. I have some questions about the scheduling though:

1) When scheduling a report that has dynamic parameters user needs to enter database credentials in order to be able to select the parameters. User is not prompted for credentials when running the report on-demand (report is set up to "Use same database logon as when report is run" i.e. when running the report on-demand the user is simply prompted to enter the parameters - not the database credentials).

How can I configure the system NOT to prompt for database credentials when selecting parameters for a report to be scheduled?

2) When scheduling a report, if I select
-> Destination
-> Specific email recipients
-> I then enter the required information
-> Click "Add attachment" check box
-> Then continue with the scheduling, e.g. select the Format to be Adobe Acrobat.

When the page is refreshed, the "Add attachment" check box is cleared even though it was previously selected.

Only way to get the attachment to be sent with the email is to click the "Add attachment" check box as the very last step before clicking "Schedule". But that's not very intuitive.. Any workarounds?

Best regards,
Ville

1. As you stated - the parameter is dynamic - therefore - Enterprise must run the LOV rpt to populate your parameter picklist - which also needs a username/pwd. You should create a separate business view for the List of Values (LOV) and hardcode the username/pwd in the business view and set it not to prompt. This should alleviate this issue.

2. How can Enterprise know which attachment type it needs to generate if you have not already selected the file type? Therefore - as soon as you change the file type - it wants you to re-select this option. Workaround? Set the format before the destination!

I hope this helps

For 1) that's something to think about. It's just quite an effort to create all the business views and modify the reports to use the LOVs as there are quite many reports with different parameters.

For 2) Your solution isn't bullet proof. Even if I select the "Format" first and after that the "Destination" and check the "Add attachment" check box and yet after that expand for example the "Parameters", the "Add attachment" check box is still cleared. So it's not simply due to not selecting the file type. And the user intuitively travels the page step by step from top to bottom so it's kind of weird having to do something in the middle of the page as the last step.

But anyway, I propably just have to instruct the users to try and remember to check the check box as the last step before clicking "Schedule".

Ville
