I have a ASUS M3A78-CM MB.. question is will a AMD FX-4300 quad core CPU work in this MB....if not what would you recomend

would like to put a faster CPU in it.........has a X4 9550 now Thanks....Robert

Sorry, but you are at the top of the food chain with that board, it only has an AM2+ cpu socket, the motherboard would need to be upgraded to one that supports AM3+ for the FX-4300 to work.

Yes i thought it odd that it was listed on the supported CPU list........

can anyone help and recommend the fastest CPU for the ASUS M3A78-CM MB

Thanks Robert...

Well, some of the AM3 cpu's will work in an AM2+ board as long as the bios supported it. Not the best way to go though. Stuck with DDR2 memory. My suggestion is to move up to an AM3+ or FM2 board go to DDR3, and a better cpu. It is possible if Asus lists an AM3 cpu on the supported site, you would have to flash the bios to the level needed before replacing the cpu. Also looks like there were board revisions, so need to know what revision your board is, it will have a sticker or silk screening on the board to let you know what rev. it is. That being said the best for any board revision and at 2501 bios version would be Phenom II X6 1090T, again you will not get the full performance from this cpu as you are stuck with DDR2 memory. This cpu has both DDR2 and DDR3 memory controllers integrated. You can not use DDR3 memory in a DDR2 slot.

Thanks for your input.....i wanted to max out this box but i guess i should build a new one......

can you suggest a website to get the parts....been looking at tiger direct and newegg but haven't found what i want.

i'm looking to get a microATX case with front USB3 ports....motherboard_CPU_combo.......always have used AMD cpu

any help will be appreciated.........THANKS Robert...

I almost always use Newegg, Don't worry about a cpu/motherboard combo, get what you want, not like it will come mounted anyways.

For cpu I would get Link

For motherboard Link

for memory ddr3 8gb Link

Case is subjective and really goes towards taste, but I like a standard case, not a lot of flashing lights. Link

This is just a quick part list, and something that would be good for 90% of people out there.

i'm not into gaming at all but i do like the case you picked and the memory has a great price...

if you have time can you revise that motherboard and CPU...i do edit a lot of video/audio and i burn alot of CD's and DVD's

would like something really fast in processing/encoding video.......Thanks for your help...my first build was about 6 years ago and i

am not up to date in motherboards/CPU.......Thanks again......Robert.

The best AMD chip for video transcoding is going to be an AM3+ chip Link But there are about a dozen Intel chips that are faster, most cost more money though.

A good pairing of the motherboard would be Link This does have an HD3000 integrated graphics, so you wouldn't need a video card, but you may want one as the HD3000 is pretty weak. Not a lot to choose from in mATX boards, only about 10 at Newegg. If you were to step up to a full ATX, and it would fit in the case you might want to look at Link, But this does not have a video card. You could use a video card you have, or an R7 260x card is decent for the price Link.

You also need to consider a quality power supply, not knowing what is in your old system, Link This Corsair is a great buy. I have 4 Corsair power supplies in my systems at home, and they are great.

Thanks..will look more into this after work.....maybe go with ATX......decisions...decisions

thanks again.........Robert...
