Hi

I have 2 processors
1 P4 530 3.0 Ghz prescott lga 775 800FSB
2 P4 640 3.2 Ghz Prescott lga 775 800fsb

When I put the 530 into the pc that had the 640 it reports that it is a high current processor and steps down to 2.8 Ghz instead of 3.0 Ghz

When I run CPU-Z it tells me that the 530 is using 2.7 volts but the 640 is using 1.4 volts.

Can anyone explain this?

Thanks

I don't know the details but what I do know is the original 500 series were very hot power hungry processors which led many users to complain about cooling issues, I also know that changes to achitecture in the newer 600 series resolved many of those problems.
I think core voltages were lower in the newer series but by how much I don't know.
Those heat issues in the earlier 500 series did result in throttling back of the clock speed (once heat parameters were reached)
