I converting a db of 8 gigas of information to the new currency in Europe, i execute a update statement to convert de values, but it is very slow and in the task manager the CPU usage % used by the oracle is always 10%-20%. Can some one help me. Can i improve the % usage by the CPU.

I suspect the I/O is the rest of the time. is the table indexed on the columns in the where clause?
if you are not using RAID, are you commiting each row? try commiting every 100 rows. If you use RAID this should not be it.
