the weirdest thing happened yesterday...all of the sudden CPU usage locked to 100% and has been like that since that, applications crash when i try to open them and soforth...i have tried to change the ram settings in bios but the thing is everything worked fine till this, so im not too sure its a hardware prob. i didnt install anything new lately, i was just afc for like an hour and when i came back, it was like this.
its is very annoying since i cant use my pc at all atm
any help much appreciated

my rig:
AMD XP 1600+
Soyo KT400 Dragon Ultra
Kingston DDRAM PC-3500 512MB
GeForce4MX(64MB)
Seagate 40GB
Hoontech DSP 24 Value
Windows XP Pro Sp1

Start your TaskManager (Ctrl.Alt.Del)and click on the processes Tab.
It will show you which process is using the CPU.
Try highlighting and ending the process (use end process button).
Reply with the offending process if this works and you need help in identifying the source of the process.
Cheers

yea, found out that it was eventsvc.exe that gave me the trouble, any idea of how i can get rid of it?

eventsvc is the reporting tool for system and application errors.

Have you checked your Event logs to see if there is a report on hardware problems?

As bcastner said eventsvc is an application error reporting tool to MS .
I personally have disabled this service since it uses memory/resources.
If you do choose to disable it use services.msc (type in the run command box).
I suspect that this service attempted to send a message to MS and got locked on.
