Is there a run command that will display the CPU speed in win98 ?

No. The best way to check the clock speed of the CPU is during the start of the bootup. It may not stay on the screen very long, (esp. if it's a very fast CPU) so you have to pay attention.

Sometimes, you can get it while in Windows by right-clicking My Computer and selecting Properties.

If not, the BIOS screen or CMOS setup is your best bet.

Actually yes there is a way.

run MSINFO32.exe
Click on Tools - Windows Report Tool
Click on Options - Collect Information
Takes about a minute to complete and for the information to display in the Windows Report Tool

Alternatively you can download the freeware MYCPU from
Just make sure you click on the English button for the page to display properly unless your German is up to speed. joegz

Another alternative is to use the DirectX Diagnostic Tool:

Start > Run > dxdiag

Ha, even I learned something! I use dxdiag enough but never noticed it ids the processor. Gold star for you vop!
