I've got a PII 233MHz MMX, i440LX Chip set, 66MHz Bus system and i want to upgrade. I have been considering various 'overclocking' options which could take me upto 766MHz for £160 ($250??)but am wondering whether it would be better (more cost effective) to get a new motherboard & chip. I Would need new RAM too I think. Would my PCI Graphics card Voodoo 2000 (16Mb) and modem, soundcard etc etc then be useless on a higher bus board (100, 133, 200Mz etc)??

Can anyone help/advise

Thanks

Over-clocking a 233 with a 66 mhz bus will be VERY limiting. Buying a new Motherboard would be preferable. Pricewatch.com will lead you to sites that sell CPU\motherboard combos at VERY VERY LOW prices, probably for $100 or less. All of your old peripherals would work fine (newer ones would work better), except for the RAM. Being the fact that RAM's price in the market is comparable to M&Ms, however, you need not fear. Have fun, and don't hesitate to ask any other questions.

I just upgraded a work colleages PC to a 850 Duron.
The upgrade kit included a 5 bay midi tower with 300 watt power, ECS DDR/SDR motherboard (onboard Lan/modem/sound and graphics), 128 SDR PC133 ram and a 1gig+ heatsink/fan.FOR £147 UK pounds.
I know not the greatest of specs but a blooming cheap way to get into 850 speed processing.
