We have a production system where the CPU was pegged at 100%. When I analyzed the saved data (sysprocess and profiler results) it appeared that at the start of the high CPU usage there were quite a few deadlocked processes (6+). But why would this cause the high CPU usage? It would seem that deadlocked processes would be causing a wait.

Has anyone experienced this or knows a reason behind the CPU usage or whether it is just coicidence?

Look at the process that was causing the blocking. That's probably the one that was pushing the CPU up to 100%.
