Quite often my cpy utilisation is at 100%.

Task managers shows this down to GCASSERVE.EXE running at 98%.

A quick google seatch showed these two conflicting statements:-

X ccApp gcasServ.exe "Added by a variant of the WIN32.RBOT
U gcasServ gcasServ.exe "Microsoft

The first said it was a virus the second was that it is Microsoft Big Spyware programme.

MSconfig does show I have a ccApp in start up but this referrs to ccappp.exe running under "symantec shared"

Any ideas?

The question I have: do you have the MS AntiSpyware installed?

1.) if not then you sure have that virus, and I would suggest an Online scan (see the FAQ, ie TrendMicro) and have the bugger killed...

2.) You do, then you should uninstall it, clean remnents from the HD and Registry, and reinstall it... it may have gotten corrupt...

3.) Do an online scan, see the FAQ page above, there are several listed...

good hunting...

You negleted to say if you have MS antivirus running.
What antivirus are you running? Do you have more then 1 antivirus programs running?
It is a common pratice of virus and malware to use the name of a common system command or program.

Have you tried removing GCASSERVE.EXE by a known method?

Homebuilt Iwill KK266R-Plus, 768mb, WinXp Pro

I have the following running - all up to date and nothing detected!

Norton Internet security professional
Microsoft Antispyware
Aol Spyware protection
Lavasoft Adware
Spybot

Disable either the AOL Spyware protection or the MS Antispyware active Scanning Module...

They may interfere with each other... thus having a reading of 100% CPU usage...

Many thanks for all your replies.

I uninstalled the MS antispyware and reinstalled the latest version.

So far all seems to be well
