Hi Guys,

I just built my own computer... It has a Gigabyte 2004 RZ motherboard, 1 Ultra 512 MMB PC 3200 400 MHz RAM, a 60 gig HDD, a GeForce FX 5200 GPU, an Ultra 500 watt ATX power supply, and finally, an AMD Athlon XP 2800+ which is supposed to clock at 2.8 GHz...

Now, everything seemed ok at first, until I looked at this application that I got with my motherboard (designed for overclocking), which said that my CPU was running at a brutal 1.2 GHz... In disbelief, I checked another tool on my computer, which told me the same thing... It also told me my external clock was running at 100 MHz...

What's the matter? why isn't my CPU running even close to its advertised speed? What could I have done wrong? What can I do to fix this?

Thanks a lot!!!

-Chris

In BIOS setup (hit delete during boot-up), you will find a page which allows you to change the speed of your memory and CPU. It may be set as "automatic", and you have to switch to "manual" to change. Consult your manual - there may be a jumper on the mobo also.

I just checked, my XP2200 clocks at 1.79 (default). That's with both clock speeds (mem and CPU) set at 133 (266). Yours should be set at 200 (mem), and probably set at 133 (CPU) to start. When you go too far, and it won't boot, reset the BIOS jumper and start over.

yeah, I was talking about stock speed...
I did find out what it was... I found the jumper micker377 was talking about and removed it... That made all the difference.

Now my CPU clocks at, as AckNack said, a little over 2GHz...
It's amazing what big of a difference a little jumper can make...
Thanks a lot, guys!
