Our vendor has our Option 81C set up so that Core 0 is always active and Core 1 is standyby (in redundant mode). Any suggestions on how often Core 1 should be tested to see if its operational and in good health? The midnight routine always backs up to Core 0, other than switching floppy disks between the cores, any suggestions on backups would also be appreciated.

you may want to do an external backup using LD 143
but first dump the data using LD43 Colin

Hi,

normally your PABX is set up to switch over to the other CPU at midnight. Also backups will be done on the active side. Read the NTP's to set up your system. In this mode both sides will be tested every other day!

hi,
ideally ue system should switch the cores during the midnight routines. go to ld 137 and type stat
and check if the redundancy is enabled and what is the statis of cni cards to check. one shoudl be active and other should be standby.
Hope it helps

You can check you midnight routines in LD 22 - PRT, OVLY. the prompts under DROL are the loads that will run at midnight. For CPUs to swap you will need 135 in there. You should also have at least 30, 34, 60 (if you have t1s), 43.

If you have the new PII system the cores will not swap at midnight.

To add a load to midnight:
LD 17
Req: Chg
Type: OVLY
DROL: <-- enter the load you are missing
<cr>

then you can test
LD 135
MIDN

and then logout

Check with your vendor and find out why they don't want the cpu's to switch - maybe there ia a problem with one. If so find out what there plan is and when they will replace the problem part - they may have just forgot about you and your problem.

Also, as mentioned earlier - make sure cnis are enabled on the face plate and in software, and the cpu's are not in Maint - either active or standby. Run tests on them before swapping.

Thanks for all the information and advice, really do appreciate it. Will get this straightened out pronto!

Our Option 81C has the new Pentium Processors and from what I am told the cores aren't suppose to be switched during midnight routines....just doesn't seem right to me but then I don't build the things. Thanks anyway to all the responders.

The new CPII cores DO NOT SWAP during midnight routines. This is normal.
