Hi everyone I had a customer that had a system failure which we assumed to be a faulty CPPM card I have just got a replacement and I am trying it in my lab but I am getting similar symptoms. I get nothing connection to the serial Interface. I should at least get the Bios right?
Is there a special way to connect to these. My memory is sketchy right now.

You should get something but anythings possible. out of box failure...

Connect a pc to serial cable, 9600 N 8 1. (port 0 of the CPPM cable does not need a null modem adapter) Make sure your using the correct cable. Not the old 3 port option 11 cable...

You could have faulty memory modules as well if the card is old.

CPPM card : Increased failure of DDR memory for CPPM card once it is rebooted
Problem isolated : Memory DDR (1Gb , DDR, 333, CL2.5, ECC / MT18VDDF 12872HG-335F1 )

We have already 4 customers ,who have CPPM card normally running fine, but after a power outage, the CPPM will not start up anymore. We replaced the 1 GB DDR memory card and everything is fine again. There were 12 replaced so far. Partner has captured the picture of faulty RAM which is attached with this email. With new DDR no problem so far. No problem found with the new RAM replaced.
Problem Clarification

Design has mentioned that the memory is from 2008 year and that their would be well past the warranty period.
Cause

If faulty memories have got marked with recent years, hope we need design to investigate this issue.

If they all from 2008 I hope design will not agree to investigate these RAMs.
Solution

As of now replace the faulty memory card with new one. Design can continue thier investigation only if they found faulty memory card with latest year made(Post 2008)

Did you move the Compact Flash across from the old card to new one? Could be the CF.

Hi Jeffnortel,

Which cable should I be using? I am currently using the old 3 port option 11 cable.?

You get a Aphenol to 2 x 25way D Type connectors with the card. Then usually just need a 25 way to 9way cable to get to serial port (This is a straight through RS232, if you are seeing nothing you might have a cross try a null modem)

Isn't this the cable used othe MGC card?

Hmmm,,looks like I will need to borrow one of these from another system to look into this.

I've had a number of these CPPM cards go faulty. Check to see if any of the LAN ports LED's falash up as I had one that was totally faulty. Changing out the Memory modules is worth a try and even swapping out the either the hard disk or compact flash card to see if you can get to the BIOS screen.

Make sure that you are using the correct serial port cable.

All the best

If it's working, then leave it alone!.

I have been able to get the cable and I am seeing output but I am getting a "journal commit I/O error".
What does this mean?

How can this be corrected?

Not sure you could try flattening the card. Control LDB and log in. If that doesnt work reboot an control I when it offers it. Once in do a diskFormat and mgcIPClear and reboot. Set the card up again.

Forget that last post talking MGCs looking at something else for someone. You put the install CF in and reboot what do you get. Does it prompt to boot from CF?

Take the CF cards off the bad card and place them on the replacement card.
Take the Security Dongle off the bad card and place it on the replacment card.
Take the memory off the bad card and place it on the replacement card (if the replacement card did not come with memory)

Put back in the system and see if it comes up. I have done this before with no issues. If there is also a problem with the replacment card, replace the memory. This is not proprietary memory and your IT guys probably have some DIMMS lying around. If stand alone Call Server, you need 2GB if Co-res or stand along Sig Server you need 4GB (but I have gotten co-res and sig server to work with no issues on 2GB if very low call volume and users).

This should get it back up and working. It would be to coincidental to have another card shipped that was DOA out of the box, but I have seen stranger things.

Hope this helps.
