hi aix/perts,

im having a problem re listing of cpio backup.

i saved it by:

find . -cpio /dev/rmt0 -print >/tmp/list

and trying to retrieve by:

cpio -itv </dev/rmt0 >/tmp/list

and received:

cpio: 0511-037 cannot read from the specified input
Enter the device or filename when ready to continue.

i cleaned the tape drive and working...tape is new...

gheist,

thank you.. but still doesn't work (AIX 4.3.3).

in one of my machine (running AIX 4.2),cpio -itv </dev/rmt0 >/tmp/list works...

i'm 100% sure the tape drive is ok... brand new & i can use it using tar backup.

Did you use the -c flag when doing your cpio backup

try cpio -itvc < /dev/rmt0

nope. i didn't use -c (but tried it anyway - didn't work)

i ended up using gheist suggestion though still thinking why it's giving me error result.
