Hi I am attempting to restore a file made with a CPIO backup to /dev/rmt2 using the following command:
find / -depth -print | cpio -oc -C20480 > /dev/rmt2
This completes without errors and I can see from the tape display that it is writing, but when issuing the following command to restore:
cpio -icdvm -C20480 </dev/rmt2 I get the following error
Cannot read from the specified input
The system make no attempt to read from the tape device (IBM Ultirium) and running mt -f /dev/rmt2 status shows that the drive is available.
I've had a search of the archived posts and can't seem to find a similar situation, most other cpio -i problems resolve around bad blocks/sizes etc, but my system does not even try to read from the drive.
I am running AIX4.3 on RS/6000.
Any suggestions much appreciated.
