Hallo,

Can somebody tell me what to do with this cpio error message,

Command : # find / -depth -print | cpio -ovcB > /dev/rmt0

the error message is :
cannot get information about /proc/number (this number is an process number, every time a different number)

When i list the tape,

Command : # cpio -itvc < /dev/rmt0

the error message is :
0511-903 Out of phase
0511-904 skipping 95 blocks to get back in phase.

This backup works good under AIX4, but with AIX5 i get these errors.

Thanks.....

are the versions of the cpio program the same on both servers ?

As a test copy the cpio executable from AIx4 to AIX5 ( copy original one somewhere else first) and retry it ?

normally you get this if you back it up not using the -c option on a box and using the -c option the other , BUT you have have specified the -c option on both cases. If possible try and omit the -c option OR back it up without the -c option.

just a few thoughts

The first error message:
"cannot get information about /proc/xxxxxx"
is something you only see in AIX5, because this /proc filesystem held all the process numbers on the system.
if you do "df -k" you see /proc as a filesystem, in this file system are all subdirectory's with an number, this number is an process number (i think). When i start an backup, cpio makes an filelist of the "/". When cpio arrives at the /proc filesystem a process number is missing (i think this is the process number of the "find" instruction)

The second error message:
0511-903 Out of phase
0511-904 skipping 95 blocks to get back in phase.
This is an other problem, i think.

I don't have an AIX4 and AIX5 system on the same location, so a cannot try to copy the cpio command.

Thanks.........
