Hello there,

I am considering purchasing one of these 8841s with Third Party Call Control (CP-8841-3pcc-K9=) to run on a pure sip trunk from voip.ms. VOIP.MS uses Asterisk as their host. I read in the Cisco documentation that Asterisk is supported.

How easy is this phone to setup? Do I need to buy a license from Cisco or is it built into the phone? Is it a simple setup, like the Cisco 504G sets, where basically, I take the phone out of the box, access the GUI via 192.168.X.X and enter the SIP parameters into the phone? Any advice would be appreciated.

Thank you,

I think you are better off asking Asterisk people since its an Asterisk platform.

Hello gnrslash4life,

My question doesn't pertain to specifically registering with Asterisk.

My question pertains to the information on Cisco's website, saying something about accessing this phone using the Web interface on a 3rd party platform, and if it's as simple as entering the IP address of the phone on a GUI and then entering the SIP parameters.

Thank you,

Ok Thanks,

I talked to a Cisco guy I know, he told me Cisco now ships the phone with the third party SIP firmware already installed. I have to be sure to buy the "third party call control" version. So no downloading of firmware is required.

I was told all I need to do is get the phone on the network and then enter the IP address of the telephone and I will get a GUI interface to register the phone.
