Folks, We just inherited a CP 150 and the default IP address has been changed. I have a laptop w/Vista and MS Telnet (emulates Hyperterminal). Bought a serial to USB cable and went thru the process in the installation manual.
No workie. I am beginning to think the problem to be in Vista or the store-bought cable....has anyone experienced this problem as well please?

I don't use Vista, but maybe it's a missing driver?

Serial connection should be designated straight-through, parameters 9600, 8-N-1. You'll need to reboot to see the first screen where the IP address is changed.

Brian, all of the parameters 9600,8-N-1 are correct and I turned down the CP to reboot to allow Telnet to act as a VT-100....just as the manual said....bought the cable thru Black Box....still can't see the embedded IP address...MS says Telnet is it's replacement for hyper- terminal....someone locally suggested the problem was w/Vista....Telnet is at the DOS level as a dumb terminal only...was this any help?

It seems others have had problems using Vista with USB to serial adapters. All I can suggest is to do a search on the forum for other threads with similar problems. This is why I like to keep old PCs with serial ports around for situations like this.

Hey Brian thanks!I'm going to try and find an old laptop...something w/W2000.....you are the second person to suggest it...thanks again!

Hey thanks..Curlycord......I've found an old laptop w/W2000 and a serial port...I'll use a straight cord and try to get into it that way....thanks again! Have a Memorable Holiday Season!

Hey Curlycord....got the old laptop w/W98 but it doesn't have hyperterminal...I need to find a freeware version that I can download to a disc, since the old laptop has no modem or NIC connection to Internet.....any help please, would again be most appreciated. (I don't want to spend $60 on a version for XP or Vista, especially since I have had so much trouble with MS Telnet)

Thankx!

It should be there. First check under All programs - Accessories - Communications. If not there, go to Add/remove programs and look under Windows components. When you find it just tick the box to install Hyperterminal.
