Hi there.. i'm a newbie to Citrix looking for some answers

What we have..

3 Win2k Servers - All DC's in a domain *ONE* of them holds Citrix..
-the Citrix server and one other are stacked 2ghz machines..
1 Novell Server - Currenlty providing email servies
-Once we get Exchage out, we'll be making the novell server an MS DC as well..
1 MS Exchange Server - currently in development/activating soon..
1 AS/400 Server - just patient services, but will be used via Citrix clients

We will be using Citrix via LAN and WAN - Frame Relay and Broadband..

My fist question.. I'm checking in on using this Terminal Servies Profile, rather than thier roaming profiles, right now.. Not everyone is going to use Citrix solely, some may still log on locally to a workstation and not use the terminal services, depending which office they are in. I believe the Terminal Service Profle takes precedence when logging either remotely/locally...is that correct?...

Secondly, is there any little issues I should watch out for before rolling out citrix? ...things like printers, email (now and with exchange), scripts and security, environment manipulation (like what they can see and what they can when in citrix, <-- do I use Group Policies or Citrix Policies..

No one has to write me a novel or anything to help me out here maybe just some info that I could read up on or a link to someone's page that may help answer my questions.. other than that, does anyone have any complaints about citrix??

Thanks for info anyone has to give..

1. Roaming profiles are a useful way of ensuring that users get a consistent desktop wherever they log in. You are correct in your assessment of profile precedence - have a look at q246132 to confirm this.

2. Things like printers and e-mail... exactly. Printer drivers and terminal services are not good bedfellows. I recently posted a link to a page on HP's site that lists TS certified printers. E-mail clients require profiles to be set up. With Outlook, this can be done via the ResKit. For the environment, you would use Group Policies, and ensure programs are installed via Add/Remove programs to ensure multi-user compatibilty.

For best results TEST OFTEN - see my 2 FAQs on testing. I also put up an aging FAQ on Roaming Profiles and Printing which may help.

On these subjects there is precious little reading matter - but you may see comments like the ones I've made repeated everywhere. This is because both printing and e-mail are fine, once you've got them working. Getting them to work may well require a little trial and error.

Hope this helps
