countif problem 1

We have grades of A*, A, B, C etc, plus slash grades of A/B, B/C etc.

My problem is that Countif doesn't recognise A* although it does recognise A*/A. Any suggestions?

try using "A~*"

the ~ (tilda) forces excel to recognise * as a literal character rather than a wildcard
