I found a flash counter in the site.so I downloaded the zip file...but when I tried to use it , it can't find the cgi file..is there some thing special I have to do ?..where should the cgi file go in ? I tried saving the cgi file in the cgi bin in the web server with no luck !!

Your help is much appreciated.

oops, forgot I was in my winter retreat! Dang computer deliberately doesn't have any of my software installed so that I'm not tempted to work over the festive season (blame the wife!).

I'll check the file next week when I get back to Edinburgh, unless someone can check the FLA on my behalf in the meantime (was that an offer from Carl I heard? ;-) ).

My only advice at this point is to make sure that the CGI file is on the same server as the swf, as Flash has inbuilt security to prevent loading from remote servers. Also, have you checked with your host to make sure that CGI usage is possible and have you put the CGI file in the right place (may be a stupid question but I have to ask). Finally, have you made sure that the references to the CGI file in the FLA match the location where you put your CGI file on your server? I've got a funny feeling you may be trying to load the CGI file on pinkzeppelin's server, which will not work from your page due to said security measures.

The zip file downloads OK, and that contains everything.

dave what permissions do you chmod the dat and the cgi file to?

nevermind i got it..

you can see it at

all i would say is make sure you set permissions on the dat and cgi files to 744, and make sure both files are together in your cgi-bin folder along with the swf..also make sure your path is usr/bin/perl..a couple things to look at i guess..just have to investigate a little..

good luck...

and dave i hope your holiday was a good one.......
