I am trying to count the number of dates in a calendar spreadsheet that have an entry in a certian place...The formula i am using is: "=COUNTA(D4,G4,J4,M4,P4,D11,G11,J11,M11,P11,D18,G18,J18,M18,P18,D25,G25,J25,M25,P25,D32,G32,J32,M32,P32)"

It is not displaying as a formula,,, it shows the formula in the cell as text. Can I not use CountA unless the cells are contiguous?

go to Tools > Options > View > Formulas

Or, the shortcut for this is [Ctrl]+[`] (the [`] key being to the left of the 1 on an American keyboard).

Do you have "'s around your formula in the cell?

If so, you are telling excel that this is a text statement. Remove the quotes and it should be read as a formula.

Also make sure your cell isn't formatted as text before entering a formula.

Cheers, Glenn.
