I want to be able to count the number of visitors to a page on my website (not the homepage).

I don't want a counter to show on the page/site. I just need to be able to read the number of visitors, perhaps in a text file?

Is there a simple way of doing this?

Thanks!

There's many ways of doing this. None of which can be accomplished using just HTML.
Google Analytics, may be overkill, but it definitely will do what you want.

Additionally any server server-side language such as PHP or ASP would be capable of doing it in a few lines of code.

I would suggest you find out what server-side language is supported by your web server and ask in the forum for that language.
