count mailto links clicked

Hi,

One of our clients wants to count the number of times an email is sent from his website - from both mailto links and the forms.

is there any hit counter that will allow me to count the number of times a mailto link is clicked? this would be even better if we could actually count how many hits resulted in an email...

Hi mate,

There are loads of link trackers out there.

One is AXS which can be found at

http://www.xav.com/

This will monitor all links that you want and also pages viewed, visitor details etc. It can also just be used for the one link if you just want that..

thanks - I've had a look and may end up using this,

the only problem is it re-directs the page to "mailto:someone@somewhere.com" i.e. a blank page.

i was looking for a counter that wouldn't do that.

i guess i'll have to check out the perl forum and try to teach myself that!

Hi mate,

I am not sure how you are using this but I have just tested the following and it works fine..

<a href=&quot;/axs/ax.pl?mailto:webmaster@domain.com&quot;>webmaster@domain.com</a>

Just change the directory to where you have axs installed..

yeah thats the code i'm using, it does open the email but i was looking for something which re-directed the page back to the opening page rather than the blank page...

i've set this up to test at

think i've pretty much given up on getting this to work though!

Hi mate,

Sorry about that. I just checked to make sure that the mail client was being launched, it never occured to me to check the other page..

If you open the mailto in a new window you keep focus on the original page but have an annoying blank pop-up.

Whatever way I try to do this there is a blank window there..

I will have a think about this and let you know..

I was going to attempt this again today but now I can't...

My whole system crashed last night and a lot of the data was not backed up and was lost, so I have to spend all my time rebuilding that first then I will have a go at this..

oh mate thats terrible!

thats happened to me before - really teaches you that the pain of backing up's worth it!

I'm still no further on with this, and i've now been given 101 other things to do so unfortunatly it's been moved down the list.
