Count Function and Combo Box 1

Hi,
I have query that includes a combo box field that has 4 items in it. I am trying to do a count on this field but I get data mismatch type error. I am using the Totals symbol in the query Design view as a grouping method. Is there another way get a count on combo boxes?

Just so you know most people frown on this idea:

Put your lookups on the form only.

With that said the counting of a field is not an issue if it uses a combo box lookup (no such thing as a combo box field). Most likely your problem can be traced back to the above article. Do you have a criteria in the field? For example if the combo shows a text value but storing a numeric value, and you try to query based on the text value you will get a type mismatch. Save yourself some pain and get rid of the lookup fields in your tables.
