Hi,

since today, we are getting an error when we try to startup our Access-applications:
"Couldn't find file System.mdw. This file is required for startup"

Since we use both Access 97 and Access 2003 we use the following syntax in our database-shortcuts:
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\MSACCESS.EXE" "Q:\Transtrac\Transtrac.mdb" /wrkgrp "w:\access97\system.mdw"

The first part is the location of the Accessversion that you want to open the file with.
The second part defines where the database is located on the network.
The third part points to the place where the workgroup is

The system.mdw is located on the drive W:
If I simply open the Windows Explorer and browse to the W:-drive, the error is gone and we can work ... until we log in again.

Does anyone have any idea what could cause this (and what could solve this would be even better ;-))

Thanks in advance

The only thing I can think of is that you could possibly have a corrupt .mdw file.

You could try backing up your system.mdw file and then recreating it to see if this solves the problem (In access 97 you need workgroup Administrator, in 2003 I am not even sure if you can run this outside of access)

Is this happening with all your access apps or just some of them, if it is the later it might be that you have a corrupt database, as this can sometimes give you strange errors.

Hey, the problem is solved.

There was an issue between our 2 domain controllers that resulted in this strange behaviour...
