Hi friends:
I have changed to a new ISP for few days. They use DHCP to provide IP to customer. I use a Windows 2000 system, after I boot the system, the IP has assign to the NIC linked to ISP,normally was 219.x.x.x
My problem is, 2~3 hours late, the IP is changed to 169.x.x.x and be without a gateway address, so the Internet connection was interrupted. I tryed to disable-and-reenable the NIC, or restart the DHCP client service, no help to get the right IP. I must reboot the Windows system to get the right IP.
How could I reget the right IP address without reboot Windows system?
Thanks!
Best regard

169.254.x.x is an address that Windows supplies automatically when you nic isn't working. I see two options. First, we need to know if you had this problem before you started using this ISP. I was having problems and I created a batch file that basically released and renewed my dhcp ip address. I finally had to reload the software from the ISP. If you had the same problem before switching to this ISP, it might be your nic. Could you give us a time frame as to how long this has been going on? Good luck.

Try, start/run/cmd/"ipconfig/renew". What happen? If you reboot do you get same ip address? Disable APIPA and check after 2 to 3 hours, you'll not get anymore 169... ip address but can you still connect to the internet? Still not working, download latest driver of the NIC. Same problem? Replace NIC as Glen suggested.

The NIC worked well. The ISP did not require any addtional software to build the link. This problem started since I changed the ISP.
I did the "ipconfig /renew" command when the Internet connection interrupted, the NIC got the new correct IP!
Thanks to GlenJohnson,ricpinto!!!
Best Regard!
