I am currently runing IP Office at multiple sites over an mpls. I just got a call from one of my sites that just took over 2 small sattilite sites and wanted to get IP Office at those two sites. Normally I wouldnt ask, but they only want 2-3 phones at each site and a full head unit seems like overkill. Is there an inexpensive way I can do this?

Perhaps a unit designed for small offices or phones that can vpn to a head unit at another site?

The site closest to them has an Avaya 406v2 Control unit. (they reside on different subnets)

Any advice would be apreciated.

Andrew

If you have decent data links to these sites, just throw some IP Phones in there off one of the others.

You could have them utilize the VPN function of the IP handsets for the small locations, but just remember that their local inbound numbers will have to be ported to the 406 unit or RCFed there if they are in a different LATA.

Thanks for the quick responces.

I have solid t1 mpls connections at both sites with dmvpn backup via dsl so connectivity is good.

As for just adding IP phones there, for some reason I thought they had to be on the same subnet as a head unit. Do they have to be manualy configured (other than extension) or can they be setup to pull the config with the dhcp settings I use at other sites?

You can simply set up the DHCP servers at the remote site to give the handsets the required info such as gateway, file server, system address etc. Or you can do it manually, no need to be on the same subnet so long as routing is in place, we do it all the time :)
