Hi,

We recently moved our Access 97 to Access 2003, and how we keep getting the error message "could not update; currently locked". We have to exit, compact, re-enter and then we can work for a while and then it all starts back up again... One of us can be in a query and the others may just be searching... We are currenlty 3 users on the database and when we were on 97 we were able to share without record locking... mind you toward the end of Access 97 stage we were getting record locking errors and the lbl file would not close... Any idea if there is a setting that is not set... or something that is not allowing us all to share the database.

Thanks,

From the Tools menu select options.

Select the advanced tab.

Make sure that Default open mode is set to Shared (I assume it is because it opens).

Make sure Default Record Locking is NOT set to All Records. Mine is set to none but I would think Edit would be more appropriate.

Finally make sure that Open Databases using record locking is checked, Otherwise it will use page locking (pages may contain multiple records and vice versa).

I hope this helps.
