Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.Office.Server.Search

I keep getting the following error when trying to load a page that I am creating in Visual Studio with C#.

Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.Office.Server.Search, Version=12.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c' or one of its dependencies. An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format.


What does that mean? the reference is there. i have removed it and re-added it several times.

the exception says it all, either you are referencing a different version of the assembly than the one required by your application or Office.Server.Search requires other assemblies which are not available.

if you are running this locally. I would start with option 2. If you deployed this and it's not working I would start with option 1.

the funny thing is that i have the same versions referenced in another project and it works.

I cant find any differences, but there has to be at least one difference between the two otherwise it would work, right? this is like bare bones projects, trying to test an i18n addin that I am working on.

BTW: I am a noobie.

Are you using the assembly in the same manner as other projects? Also have you tried googling the exception. this is always the first step in diagnosing a problem.

everything is the same as far as I remember. i checked all the things i can think of. but remember, i am a noob so there could be a setting that i dont know about. this guy that is no longer with my company helped me set it up.

i googled first, no luck.

Is there any way of contacting the previous developer? He may have some insight into the problem.
