Howdy! I am not sure what the DBA did to her machine, but any user other than root cannot 'su', lpstat, etc... this error keeps coming up when such is attempted.

eng: (FATAL ERROR) Could not get process credentials. Errno = 1
eng: errno=1: Not owner

I checked to make sure the users are in the proper group and they are (staff). Not sure what could have happened. Any help would be most appreciated.

:)

Wow, thanks for the fast response!! (sound of hand slapping forhead) I'll check on /home permissions and let you know. Again thanks!

:)

not sure of su - check permissions on its path
enQ (not enG) refuses to work when qdaemon is not running (/etc/inittab problems? )

Couldn't find any permissions problems. qdaemon is running fine (and I can do an lpstat, lp, etc while root).

The su thing may not be related, I get authentication denied when trying to su while any other user than root.

:)

there is a specific sugroups for every user (maybe system, like wheel on linux)
and
only members of printq group can operate printers on 4.3.3

root is not restricted this way - it can su to any user and operate printing daemons

Failed setting credentials
Check the permissions on the root directory (/). They should be 755.
Check owner and group

Also check the /etc/security/user file....there is a field for su which could be set to false?
and also sugroups?

Just a thought.... or there is really a permission problem somewhere ...sometimes people set directories to 777 and that hoses things up, especially the /etc directory and /etc/secuirty directory

Check that the database doesn't own the root directory as well.

Thanks for your help, I will check into what you have suggested... I will keep you posted. And, if I get this fixed, I am taking root away from the DBA :-D
