Could not complete your request

this is becoming increasingly annoying, i use photoshop 7 and i could be working fine for hours on end but as soon and i start a big cutting job its says "could not complete your request because of program error" and i can do anything else. can anyone help!!

When you say big: how big? Are they 1 MB, 5MB, or 20+MB files?

If the problem does not happen on "smaller" cutting jobs, I would look at the resources you have available on the computer.

For instance:
Are you using a second hardrive as your scratch disk
Do you have plenty of RAM (like a gig or more)
Is it an old computer
do you have other apps running- and if so, does closing them make a difference

The above assumes you are working on windows (I don’t know apple)

sorry should of said am using a XP pro machine with 256 ram and the images are usually no bigger than half a gig if that there are usually no other programmes open and it has recently started to blue screen after the message

WOW 1/2 Gig (500 MegaBytes) that's very huge, r u sure it's that large?

XP with only 256 MB RAM is asking for trouble with just a normal load from any application.

To try image editing with that combo is going to be a risky business no matter what. With Photoshop and files that are half a GB you have no chance. You need a LOT more RAM, and I'd suggest looking at an absolute minimum of 512MB, but with file sizes such as you mention you want at least a GB of RAM.
