Hi,

I have some question regarding Microsoft Access. Could Mcrosoft Access working thru WAN. Example there are two sites A & B. Site A will be HQ and site B is the branch. We put Server at site A and client at site B. The client at site B will transfer data to site A such as records, table and so on.

Could anyone point to me where I can get the info for the question and Microsoft Access.

Thanks in advance.

As long as your client at site B has access to the server at site A there should be no problem.
All that site B has to do is link all the required tables into a database in site A.
In other words there needs to be an Access database on the server a Site A which holds all the tables that Site B needs to populate.

Look at linkining Access tables in the help files

Cheers

Well, you can do this, but it is not recommended. Running access across a WAN will probably be extremely slow and you are going to be moving a lot of traffic across the WAN which could get the WAN support guys in your office mad at you.

If possible, it would be best to move the tables into SQL server and have 2 copies of the database containing the forms/reports, etc. That way Site A and Site B will each be able to run a local copy of Access and still reference the same set of data. Maq B-)

Maquis is right, I tried!

Even when you optimize your Access application to the max, don't expect great response time, out of a LAN or a 1 Mbit/s WAN.

The easiest solution is to move your data to an SQL server database, in which case the request are run on the server and only the SQL and request data go through the network.

Or to use the terminal server to connect your remote PC to Access applications running on a large NT/2000 server.

Are there any issues to be aware of when moving a back-end to SQL server??

Does the front-end need any other mods apart from refreshing linked tables??

B-)
