I heard cat3 could possibly run at 100mbps. I thought cat3 was good for only 16mbps. Please could someone send me straight about this issue. If possible are there any links to this issue, thanks.

CAT3 is only for 10Mhz reliably. Does this mean you can push it to 100mhz? maybe.. more then likely not since the twists are incorrect. Is it worth risking your time chasing ghosts due to bad cabling? I would say not.

In the FAQ section, there is a FAQ about cable design with 2 or 3 links one which points to Paul Kirsh who is the "father" of the CAT3-5 series of specs.

Cisco is supposed to be coming out with a new switch that guarantees 100mghz over CAT-3. (I don't believe it)

I'm not positive, but I think 100BaseVG AnyLAN can handle 100 Mbps over CAT-3. I can scrounge around for more info if you'd like.

Yep.. 100VG could work over CAT3 but who has the equipment any more? or support it even if you could find it. If I recall correctly ( definitely a maybe!) only HP made this stuff???

Yeah -- it's a Hewlett Packard/IBM standard. My sense from the original question was that it was more of a theoretical, "can it be done" sort of thing. Apologies if you were looking for "can I do it now" suggestions! :)
